CBN Explained: How Cannabinol Helps with Sleep and Addresses Pain

 In Health

Where does CBN Come From?

The cannabis plant is home to nearly 100 different molecular chemical compounds, referred to as cannabinoids. You might be familiar with the most common of these cannabinoids, THC and CBD. Others such as Cannabinol, or CBN, are gaining a lot of attention for their medicinal uses.

The effects of CBN are non-intoxicating

This means that CBN is effective for treating a variety of medical symptoms without producing a high. However, when consumed in very large doses, CBN can produce a mildly intoxicating effect.

CBN as a sleep aid

CBN has strong sedative and relaxing properties compared to other cannabinoids. Early stage research shows that cannabinol is an effective sleep aid for those suffering from insomnia, restlessness, or other sleep difficulties. This effect can be enhanced when used with THC.

CBN for pain relief

CBN can also provide effective pain relief for a variety of conditions, including arthritis, migraines, nerve damage, inflammation, and even burns. CBN interacts with specific sensory nerves in the body through the “release of sensory neuropeptides and vasorelaxation”, according to a study in the Journal of Neuroscience. Pain relief can be enhanced when used with THC.

Further benefits of CBN

It has been suggested that CBN may stimulate the growth of bone marrow cells, assisting in the rejuvenation of bone tissue that might have been damaged by an injury.  Research also shows that CBN can suppress certain parts of the immune system. This can be useful for treating conditions caused by an overactive immune system, such as psoriasis. CBN can be used to stimulate appetite, is an anticonvulsant, and is anti-bacterial.

Where can I find CBN Products?

The cannabis plant only contains trace amounts of CBN, formed as THCa breaks down. In our lab, we convert and extract CBN from the cannabis plant and then infuse it into transdermal patches and pens under the Mary’s Medicinals license. Transdermal products offer discreet, systemic relief. Used in tandem, the patch and pen can deliver 8-12 hour windows of effect. For more information about the benefits of transdermal applications, click here:

The Transdermal Patch is used by applying the patch directly to the skin. CBN travels through the bloodstream and provides 8 – 12 hours of relief from pain and inflammation and also aids in sleep.

The Transdermal Gel Pen is used by applying gel from the pen on the skin. This gel travels quickly through the bloodstream and can provide rapid pain relief.
